![]() ![]() I gave him a copy of the book as I felt it really appeals to mainline Christians because it argues within the context of what they believe, specifically that the Bible is the direct word of God. They've come a long way over the years but recently in taking with my dad he mentioned the age old love the sinner but hate the sin and all sin is equal and we started talking about whether or not it is a sin. My parents are not what I would call fundamentalist or evangelical, certainly not today, but they were raised that way in a rural area and thus they did the same to us. Gushee is a former ordained Baptist pastor and Christian ethicist ( ) and the book does a great job examining the context, history and translation of the very few passages in the Bible on homosexuality, ultimately making the case that we should not teach that modern committed homosexual marriage is a sin and should instead be included in the church at all levels. Just wanted to share some text messages from my Dad today after I gave him a copy of David Gushee's "Changing Our Mind", an examination of the biblical evidence for condeming homosexuals and excluding them from the church. ![]()
